Why Excellence is Required?

Excellence is excelling in everything that we do. Excellence is best of best. When we talk about world-class excellence, it means world’s best excellence. When organization wants to be one of the world-class companies; it has to grow multidimensional. Only growing revenue wise is not adequate to become world-class company, the revenue might be one of the factors.

Whether it is ISO Management System implementation or implementation of any other business excellence initiative, nothing is mandatory. It is organization’s strategic decision to implement these excellence models for achieving excellence in business processes.

The business could be managed without ISO Management Systems or any other business excellence initiative, but it will be only for the survival purpose. For having extraordinary growth or for achieving extraordinary success, it is necessary to go beyond normal things and follow excellence initiatives.

Various excellence initiatives such as 7 QC tools, 5S, Kaizen, Gemba Kaizen, TQM for excellence, TPM, Value Engineering, Six Sigma, Theory of Constraints, including ISO Management system implementation, would help organizations grow exponentially. The effectiveness and efficiencies of the processes would increase dramatically. The culture of the organization, the motivational level, the enthusiasm, celebrations, happiness everything would grow multifold. If the organization is not one of the world-class companies, it would certainly start following the path towards becoming world-class.

Excellence is like flying the kite up and high in the sky. Once the kite flies up & high in the sky, no efforts or minimum efforts are required to fly the kite, as it flies of its own. Similar kind of a situation happens in the organizations. World-class companies achieve the results with minimum efforts as they breath excellence.

There are several business-excellence models and prestigious awards which organization can win. These certifications and awards are indication of world-class operations in the organizations.

We talked about needs and expectations of the interested parties. Which interested parties would not be happy to get associated with the world- class companies? The investors get good amount of ROI, society is happy, government bodies and regulatory bodies are happy due to high level of compliance to the legal requirements, employees are happy, top management is happy, leadership gets its own name and so on.

Half of the issues of the organization get resolved of its own due to excellence. The risk levels are very low. The failure rates are low, zero accidents are achieved, customer satisfaction levels are high, revenue growth is high, environment impacts are low, energy conservation is high. Name the thing and it has its own excellence in it.

During my training programs, I always tell participants, whatever you do, please try to achieve the excellence in it, so that you will face minimum challenges and no difficulties. Organizations need to promote the excellence, and motivate employees for achieving excellence. Building excellence is not one day job, but it is life long journey, which continues till the businesses run and grow.

Step by step approach of achieving the excellence should be followed by the organizations. The journey of excellence should start with the simple improvement initiatives and then further excellence could be built upon earlier initiatives, steadily and consistently.
