Why to Understand Customer Requirements

Understanding customer requirements clearly is the first step towards achieving the customer satisfaction. The customer requirements are mostly given in the purchase orders raised by customers. Sometimes, they are also called as order specifications. There is a requirement of contract review in Quality management System (QMS). Customer order or may be a contract with the customer has to reviewed by the organization, before acceptance, for assessing the capability of the organization of meeting the customer requirements. If this is not done, there is a risk of order processing getting stuck somewhere during subsequent processes.

Customer requirements can change even after the order is placed. With the proper risk assessment and risk management as well as Management of Change (MOC), these changes could be taken care of by the organization. Customer communication is one more requirement of the QMS. Any change related to the order specifications till the product is dispatched to the customer, or even during post-delivery activities, the customer communication is important in order to avoid customer dissatisfaction.

More the organization understands the context of the organization as well as the customer requirements, better is the system implementation and effectiveness.
